2025 was the 100th Legislative session. It was also the first time in our history that we had a change of leadership during session, with Governor Larry Rhoden taking over after the resignation of Governor Kristi Noem to join the Trump administration as the Secretary of Homeland Security.
Legislators proposed 269 House Bills and 220 Senate Bills not including resolutions or commemorations. There were a number of proposals related to property taxes, of which, one bill passed both chambers and was signed by the Governor. The Legislature approved a 1.25% increase for ‘the big three’ – public education, state employee salaries, and healthcare providers.
